The consecutive interpreting mode is often used when interpreting for witnesses during direct examinations, cross examinations and depositions. The interpreter must remember a segment of speech and render it in the target language, requiring a strong short-term memory and solid note taking skills. You must have board range of legal knowledge and interpreting experience in order to do an excellent job at consecutive interpreting. This mode is also tested as part of the state certification exam.
Our instructor will use pre-recorded witness testimony as training material. You will improve your short-term memory and enhance your active listening skills, as well as note-taking and identifying key words. At the end of the course, students should be able to interpret in consecutive mode accurately and smoothly.
For students who intend to take the state certification oral exam in 2025.
Our instructors are veteran California court certified Mandarin Interpreters, some of whom have more than 10 years of interpreting experience, both in court and in the private sector.
Our instructors have taught at the UCLA Extension legal translation and interpreting program. They are all experienced teachers who have trained current certified court interpreters.
We offer online classes via Zoom, so you can receive top-notch training in the comfort of your home. You are just a click away from a new career.
