Our Lead Instructor

Lijuan (Tracy) Ma is a California Court Certified Mandarin Interpreter currently serving with the Los Angeles Superior Court. She is also the lead instructor for the Legal Interpretation and Translation Program at UCLA Extension, where she has taught since 2014.

A native of Beijing and graduate of the prestigious University of Science and Technology with a degree in English language, Ms. Ma has lived in the United States for almost two decades. Her career as an interpreter has spanned both the public and private sector, including extensive work in legal, medical, conference interpreting and wide variety of other specialties.

Explaining her purpose in creating these courses, Ms. Ma notes: “There are very few continuing education courses conducted in Mandarin. These specialized classes will hopefully fill a big gap in educational resources available to the professional interpreter.”

Xiaotian (Mia) Mu is a California Court Certified and federally approved Mandarin Interpreter.  She currently serves at Los Angeles County Superior Court and also teaches in the Legal Interpretation and Translation Program at UCLA Extension. 

Ms. Mu obtained a master’s degree in Translation and Interpreting and a bachelor’s degree in English, from the world-class Nankai University, which gave her a strong academic foundation for her career in interpreting.  As an experienced interpreter and trainer, she has an in-depth understanding of various learning methods, helping her students gain mastery of this challenging career.
