VIP One-On-One Training

Simultaneous interpreting is probably the most commonly used interpreting mode in court proceedings. The interpreter provides non-stop interpretation for people with limited English proficiency (LEPs) without interrupting the speaker. Simultaneous interpreting is efficient but requires the interpreter to have a high commend of both English and Chinese, as well as legal knowledge and large vocabulary. The instructor will train the students using shadowing drills, dual task drills, and paraphrasing to master simultaneous interpretation. Your skills will improve through practice and rigorous training.  

The consecutive interpreting is often used when interpreting for witnesses during direct examinations, cross examinations, and depositions. The interpreter must remember a segment of speech and render it in the target language, requiring a strong short-term memory and solid note-taking skills.  You must have board range of legal knowledge and interpreting experience in order to do an excellent job at consecutive interpreting. This mode is also tested as part of the state certification exam. During this one-on-one session, your instructor will train you specifically on consecutive interpreting techniques, including all the necessary skills. Through guided practice and drills, you will gain proficiency at this challenging skill.  

This VIP class is designed for students who want to learn essential interpreting skills and techniques and improve competence and accuracy to further prepare for the upcoming state oral test. All levels of training (beginner, intermediate, or advanced) training will be available for enrolled students.

Our program is flexible. If you would like to take training for simultaneous interpreting mode only or consecutively interpreting mode only, you may register for our basic package which consists of five 2-hour sessions.  After registration, please contact us via email to let us know which interpreting mode you would like choose.

This class is specifically designed for the court Interpreter certification exam. Students will get familiar with legal jargon and high-usage vocabulary in different subjects. We have prepared high-frequency glossaries for criminal law and other topics. We will polish students’ skills in sight translation, consecutive interpreting, and simultaneous interpreting. The students will have full confidence facing this rigorous state exam. 

This special class is designed for students who have basic knowledge and skills of legal interpreting and intend to take the state exam soon.
